Reflection on last meeting feedback
The feedback that I received for my assignments led me to explore different types of videos and histology sites for anatomy and physiology. My three assignments were focused on the lab portion of anatomy and physiology rather than the lecture. One of the main skills that we implement in the lab portion of the course is using microscopes to properly view slides and to analyze different histological slides. This is something I want to further explore of how to properly implement. What I plan to do is to find better sources for histology and analyze the slides with the students in person.

Reflection on DOAJ
One of the assignments that I find to be worthwhile in my classes is a research paper analysis. For this assignment, students must read and analyze a scientifically peer reviewed article; the topic would have to be related to human anatomy and physiology. One of the most difficult aspects of this assignment is finding a research paper; some students are not able to properly navigate data bases or differentiate between different scholarly sources. However, DOAJ is simple to use and can be used by students to find a research paper that would be suitable for the class. One of the skills that students lack is the ability to distinguish between…

OER ideas for Anatomy and Physiology- David Zilberman
Since going remote, the hands on/interactive approach of the lab portion of the anatomy and physiology course has been diminished. I think that coming up with OER assignments that specifically tackle a sort of hands on approach for the lab portion would be a worthwhile idea. Of course, there is no feasible way for us to get the students to actually use the microscope and identify specific prepared slides. However, interactive skills are important in understanding important scientific concepts. There are plenty of websites that offer self-guided histology activities and notes; in order for students to appreciate slide/sample preparation, an activity could be prepared surrounding these histological samples. Furthermore, some…

Initial thoughts on pedagogy- David Zilberman
As someone who learned in a “traditional” classroom setting, the idea of open pedagogy is something I approach with curiosity, but also with caution. As a student, I thrived in a teacher centered classroom, and honestly thought that it was a great way of learning. However, as I learn more about open pedagogy, I can see the appeal of it to students and the instructors alike. One major advantage of open pedagogy is the lack of a financial burden/impact on a student’s financial being. Material for a course should be readily accessible for students; I think most people can agree that the costs of textbooks are exorbitant. However, the quality…
