I have really enjoyed my time in this semester’s Open Pedagogy Fellowship. When I began the fellowship, I honestly was not sure what to expect. I have been using OER textbooks in my classes for years – in fact, ever since I began teaching at Kingsborough and finally had the power to assign free textbooks instead of ones mandated to me as a former adjunct/lecturer. I also knew vaguely that other professors were using resources such as Wikipedia to basically allow their students the freedom to share their work with the wider world. For my Open Pedagogy project, I decided to work on an extension of a previous project for my Human Development (PSY 3200) course. In my old project, I tasked students with using community/neighborhood health data from the NYC Department of Health’s Community Health Profiles.
