    Open Pedagogy Projects – post by Julia Morris

    I am wresting with this Open Pedagogy concept. The author, Robert Schuwer, refers to this practice as a way “connecting to the outside world and to the educational process using accessible tools” (‘What is Open Pedagogy?, blog post). He calls the approach an ‘active form of learning.’ How is this active? I am curious. I guess I need more examples.–What might I personally create using this approach? My hope is to put together a tool or assignment for pre-service teachers AND fellow faculty teaching education classes. My hope is to start very simply.     Ungrading the Writing Process: Preservice Teachers Craft an Educational Philosophy

    This fellowship has been enriching and inspiring! I had dabbled in OER for a few semesters and this experience has helped me understand OEP more fully. With Ryan’s support, I have now selected an OER textbook for EDC 200 and have created a project to share with the OEP community. The process of participating in the fellowship and the guidance provided helped me to examine a key assignment for EDC 200 – writing an educational philosophy statement, and reflect on how to better support my students in understanding and completing the assignment.     Sociocultural Module OR Educational Philosophy Statement UNgrading Process

    Our Open Pedagogy work has given me so much food for thought. It is interconnected with the work I’m doing in FITR and in UNgrading. Meeting our students where they are by developing intentional, accessible and creative materials is very important – especially now! I have two possibilities for this semester project: Idea 1 My project for this semester consists of restructuring the sociocultural module for my Social Foundations of Education course.
